New unit to fight graffiti

PARRAMATTA Council has stepped up its battle against vandals by arming its Graffiti Crime Removal Unit with a new quick response vehicle and soda blaster equipment.
Lord Mayor Paul Garrard said graffiti vandalism had become a significant concern costing our community money and resources that could be better used on important projects.
“We are determined to keep our city clean and attractive and the removal unit is equipped to keep Parramatta graffiti-free,” he said.
“We are now better able to respond to graffiti crimes quickly and in a cost-efficient manner,” Cr Garrard said.

SOME of our brightest golf prospects swung their way through the Oatlands and Ryde-Parramatta courses last week as part of a tournament run by Jack Newton.
The Harvey Norman Week of Golf saw juniors play a five-day tournament at courses across Sydney.
More than 300 boys and girls competed across four categories in one of junior golf’s major events.

Bailed Castle Hill youth was out to vandalism again

TWO men and two youths were caught with 69 cans of spray paint in their car and back packs last Monday morning, when police noticed the car they were in driving erratically near Castle Hill High School.
At 4am, police patrolling Castle Hill noticed the car at the intersection of Rowallan Ave and Castle St, Castle Hill.
Police searched the car and the four occupants.

Thieves target vehicles

THERE has been a spike in stealing from motor vehicles around Granville and Guildford railway stations over the festive season while in Parramatta, the offence is under control, police report.
Rosehill police are warning motorists to lock their cars and hide valuables such as GPS navigators, laptop computers and mobile telephones after a spike in vehicle break-ins.
