Fast train to Penrith: No work until 2015

WORK on a train line providing express trains to shave 10 minutes from a journey between Penrith and the Sydney CBD will not start until 2015.
The proposed 5km tunnel, which was listed as a “priority” in the State Government’s Metropolitan Transport Plan released this week, would see a new track built from Eveleigh to Wynyard.
Under the $4.5 million City Relief Line, western Sydney commuters would get an express train service to Richmond, Penrith, Blacktown and Parramatta.

Parramatta to host Mother’s Day Classic event

Parramatta City Council will again support the Mother’s Day Classic, to be held on Sunday 9 May, to help raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s research programs.
The Mother’s Day Classic is Australia’s largest charity walk/run event and aims to increase awareness of breast cancer in the community.

Parramatta is one of 10 cities across Australia that will hold an event and participants can choose to run or walk either a 4km or 8km route. A further 25 regional locations will also host events.

Parramatta homeless initiative a success

The first ever street count of homeless people in Parramatta was held on Monday 15 February and organisers have said the results will assist in future policy development to combat homelessness.
“This project has provided us with firm data that will form part of the overall research program we are undertaking with our partners at the University of Western Sydney” said Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Cr Paul Garrard.

Feldstein New York bound

Jack Feldstein is a Sydney-based film-maker specialising in animated movies using a neon process. He is heading to New York.

Feldstein is also a highy accredited scriptwriter whose play “The French Girl” was performed at the Short+Sweet Drama Festival in Sydney last week.

The story: Steve and Ray are lamenting the grand final loss of their favourite rugby team, the Parramatta Eels when a beautiful and passionate French girl crosses their path.
Feldstein who was born in Adelaide and moved to Sydney when he was 18,  moves to New York full-time next month.
