Important star catalogue from Parramatta Observatory donated to Mount Stromlo Observatory

Over the Easter weekend 2-5 April 2010 the National Convention of Amateur Astronomers (NACAA) was held in Canberra. During the event a well-known amateur astronomer, Colonel Arthur Page, made an important donation to Mount Stromlo Observatory, the library of which was destroyed in the Canberra bushfires of 18 January 2003. The donation was a rare copy of the Catalogue of 7385 stars from Parramatta Observatory. This …

Thick fog descends on Sydney

Thick fog that blanketed Sydney and the central tablelands disrupted ferry services and reduced visibility to as little as 50 metres in some parts this morning.

Ferry services to Parramatta were suspended for a time and were running slowly between Rydalmere and the city from about 8am, a NSW Transport spokesman said.
Flights in and out of Sydney Airport were unaffected by the fog, a spokesman said.

US superstore gets go-ahead for Sydney

US discount retail giant Costco will set up its Australian headquarters in Sydney after the NSW government approved the plan today.

The $58 million retail warehouse will be built in the western Sydney suburb of Auburn on Parramatta Road.
The three-storey development, which drew objections from local retailers, will have more than 13,700 square metres of floor area.
