Birdies, bogeys, brilliance

SOME of our brightest golf prospects swung their way through the Oatlands and Ryde-Parramatta courses last week as part of a tournament run by Jack Newton.

The Harvey Norman Week of Golf saw juniors play a five-day tournament at courses across Sydney.

More than 300 boys and girls competed across four categories in one of junior golf’s major events.

Scratch champion of the boys 17 years and over category was Jordan Zunic, of Bonnie Doon Golf Club, with a score of 348.

Other scratch champions were Jake Higginbottom (Bonnie Doon) in the boys 16 years category, Ricky Kato (Bonnie Doon) in the boys 15 years, and Carly Beck (The Australian) in the girls 15 years and over category.

Our local clubs were far from disgraced.

Top performers included Daniel Yu, who finished second to Zunic.

Yu, who hails from the Oatlands club, finished with a score of 358.

Muirfield Golf Club had two good performers.

Dale Williamson came third in the boys 15 years category with a score of 375, while Brian Heo was the 15 years nett champion.
