Hindmarsh has plans to go all the way

IT’S ALL or nothing for Parramatta tonight. Having come this far after looking bewitched, bothered and bewildered halfway through the season, nothing short of winning the premiership is going to satisfy their appetite.

Eels skipper Nathan Hindmarsh.

Their engine in the forwards, second-rower Nathan Hindmarsh, made it clear before training yesterday that if they lost tonight, or next weekend, or in the grand final, they wouldn’t be able to console themselves with thoughts like ”we did pretty well in the end, considering”.

Asked if it would be a huge disappointment if they didn’t win it from here, Hindmarsh replied: ”It would be, yeah, considering our win against the Dragons on Sunday was probably one of our best wins of the year. We’re not getting too far ahead of ourselves, but we think we’re quite capable of going all the way.

”But we still have to take it one game at a time, and we have to beat Gold Coast tomorrow night, which is going to be very hard for us. So another 100 per cent effort is needed.”

Hindmarsh said that being without the injured centre Krisnan Inu again would not upset the team’s plans.

Jonathan Wright came in on the wing when illness forced Eric Grothe out of the round 26 clash against the Dragons, which the Eels lost 37-0. Grothe returned for the rematch and Wright stayed in the team in place of Inu. He made a few mistakes in the first game but improved last weekend, when the Eels won 25-12.

”’Jono’ played very well for us last week, so we’re not going to be losing too much with him staying there,” said Hindmarsh, who admitted the finals were a different animal to what they used to be, and that the Eels were looking to take advantage.

”It used to be that if you came eighth you were pretty much going out the first week, but since the Warriors won in the first week against Melbourne last year, things are changing.

”That’s the way the comp is at the moment, it’s very even. If you finish eighth you can go on and win it, there’s nothing stopping you from doing that.”

Hindmarsh urged Eels fans to take advantage of the fact they will out-number Titans fans at tonight’s game and try and fill the SFS.

”We’d like to see 30 to 40 thousand there, that’d be nice,” he said. ”We’re the only Sydney team playing in Sydney this weekend. I think the fact a lot of our fans couldn’t get tickets last week is going to make them more interested in coming this week, especially after our win.”
