TWO brawls leading to several arrests for affray and violent disorder were the “highlight” of alcohol-fuelled violence in the Hills last weekend.

Hills police made 35 arrests during Operation Unite, the two-day police blitz.

Operation UniteThe 35 people arrested in the Hills face a range of charges from affray and violent disorder to drink-driving, trespassing and malicious damage.

A man, 38, of Carlingford, was charged with assault after allegedly attacking a police officer at Ryde, leaving him with a fractured nose and possible neck injuries. The man was in custody over the assault of a patron at Eastwood Hotel when the officer was hurt.

An extra 16 police were in the Hills for Operation Unite, which swung into action across Australia and New Zealand targeting licensed venues and other hot spots between 8pm and 4am on Friday and Saturday nights.

In the ugliest incident, police were forced to use capsicum spray to subdue four men brawling in the carpark of the Mean Fiddler at Rouse Hill at 2.45am on Saturday.

It took 10 police officers and security to break up the fight between three 19-year-olds and a 20-year-old from the Windsor and Riverstone areas.

They will face Parramatta Court in January charged with affray and violent disorder.

At 3am on Sunday hotel security called police again, this time to break up a fight between three men in the carpark.

A man, 27, of West Pennant Hills, a man, 23, of Stanhope Gardens, and a man, 26, of Glenwood, were charged with violent disorder and will face Parramatta Court next month.

Several people were fined $550 each for failing to leave licensed premises because they were drunk and disorderly, including a woman, 28, of Wilberforce.

A man, 25, of Castle Hill, was fined after police received several calls from motorists reporting an intoxicated man walking along Showground Rd at Castle Hill at 9.10pm on Saturday.

Police found him at Castle Hill Tavern and he refused to leave. He was fined $550.

Two 19-year-olds from Castle Hill were arrested and charged with several alcohol-related offences after they refused to leave Castle Towers on Friday evening.

Both were drinking alcohol in an alcohol-free zone at the front of Castle Towers.

One kept walking back inside the shopping centre where security told him to put his shirt back on and leave.

Both were charged with trespass, offensive language and failing to comply with directions from police. They will face Parramatta Court on January 14.

Hills crime manager Detective Chief Insp Wayne Murray said it was a successful operation indicating that alcohol-fuelled violence was not limited to licensed premises.

“Police will continue to focus on alcohol-fuelled incidents in the general CBD as well as licensed premises,” he said.
