Police uncover large-scale ATM skimming scam
Police are appealing for public help to locate three men in relation to a large-scale ATM skimming scam involving teller machines in in Bankstown, Parramatta, Burwood, Chinatown, Haymarket and Wollongong.
Since October last year, detectives have received more than 100 complaints about money being stolen from private bank accounts.
Officers formed Strike Force Doon which established that one or more skimming devices had been attached to several automatic teller machines in the northern Wollongong area.
Detectives allegedly discovered large amounts of money had subsequently been stolen from accounts accessed at other ATM’s in Bankstown, Parramatta, Burwood, Chinatown and Haymarket.
Financial institutions have been alerted to the scam and the State Crime Command Fraud Squad has also been advised.
Police today released CCTV images of three men who may be able to assist their inquiries.
The images show the men allegedly withdrawing money on several occasions from two teller machines in Burwood and one at Bankstown.
