Your hidden treasure could be the missing piece to Parramatta’s history
Are you an obsessive collector or perhaps have an object that is treasured by you and has a significant connection to Parramatta? Then the Parramatta Heritage and Information Centre would like to hear from you.
Expected to go on exhibition early next year, the Heritage and Information Centre is turning to the public to help bring the Treasured exhibition to life.
“Whether family heirlooms or wonderful examples of a collecting obsession, Treasured will share the varied nature and identity Parramatta’s regional collections,” said exhibition Curator Gay Hendriksen.
“The objects we are looking for might not usually be exhibited or known to the wider community and may be as varied as a World War One diary entry, an early bible, contemporary artworks, a convict tool or a 1860s photograph of Parramatta.”
Treasured will showcase the nature of collecting in the Parramatta region, looking at Parramatta’s diverse community through the objects collected and exhibited.
“Parramatta is known for its rich history, art, culture and heritage, and I am certain there are still many hidden treasures and untold stories in the Parramatta LGA.”
“With community support and involvement with this exhibition, it will perhaps reveal new Parramatta Stories that can contribute to the wonderful history Parramatta City already has to offer,” said Mrs Hendriksen.
If you have an object you think is worthy of consideration then the Parramatta Heritage Centre curator would like to hear from you.
